He was subsequently admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and was retained in his pupil-master firm, commencing his legal practice in February 2020.
During both his pupillage and the initial year of practice, Encik Amirul was primarily trained in civil litigation and corporate advisory. He regularly deals with contractual and tort disputes, public interest cases and has actively assisted his pupil-master in his representation with respect to proceedings brought under various statutory provisions, including but not limited to, the Employee Provident Fund Act 1991, Elections Act 1958 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. He has also taken up assignments in pertaining to the rendering of both general and specialized corporate advisory services for both independent and nationalized organizations in Malaysia.
He thereafter went to practice at Messrs Othman Hashim & Co, where he was exposed to utility and energy exclusive disputes arising from breach of agreements between licensee and authorized power users and claims for loss of revenue against both authorized and non-authorized consumers, representing the largest public listed power company in Southeast Asia and Malaysia’s leading integrated telco company.
At Messrs Chiong & Partners, Encik Amirul is currently being placed in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. His present principal practice is dispute resolution focusing on general litigation, involving various areas of the law, including but not limited to, intellectual property litigation, employer- employee issues, corporate disputes between stakeholders of a corporation and tax disputes.
